Neil Patel Reveals the Top 7 Growth Marketing Tools for 2019

Neil Patel, co-founder of Crazy Egg, Hello Bar and KISSmetrics, recently shared his insights into digital marketing trends at the Customers.ai Global Growth Marketing Summit.

The summit was Customers.ai’s second digital marketing conference, which brought together expert marketers and entrepreneurs.

It had experts from all over the online marketing field sharing their strategies and secrets.

Neil opened the summit with expert tips on how to grow a brand into a unicorn.

He also shared a breakdown of the online marketing tools and Facebook tools he relies on.

Discover how he uses Ubersuggest, Customers.ai, Buzzsumo and more to drive traffic.

1. Ubersuggest

Ubersuggest is a free keyword suggestion tool (created by Neil himself).

It’s good for a lot of things: finding keywords,

Try combining Ubersuggest with Google Search Console.

Identify your most popular keywords in GSC and then take your top keywords and put them into Ubersuggest.

That will show you long-tail variations that are popular.

Modify your content to address these long-tail keywords.

(Don’t just add them in without merit — actually add a section that provides useful content surrounding the long-tail keyword.)

Now you’ll rank for the head term and the associated long-tail phrases.

2. Customers.ai

I was happy, of course, to see my own tool on Neil’s list.

Customers.ai is my free chatbot building software, and Neil captured how powerful they can be.

If you use a Facebook Messenger chatbot to deliver your content, you can earn sky-high engagement.

“The click-through rates are insane: 80% open rates and at least 20% click-through rates — that’s huge,” Neil said.

He also noted how easy it is to get opt-ins and emails using Messenger chatbots, because no one has to put in their name and email address — when someone interacts with you on Messenger, that key data is automatically given to you.

With Messenger, you have a new channel where you can deliver messages that won’t get ignored (or blocked by spam filters).

You can automate and scale the process with a chatbot, which is easy to build and use with Customers.ai.

3. Google Search Console

Getting the most amount of clicks it’s not just about where you rank it’s about creating attractive title tags.

Neil uses Google Search Console is to run SEO split tests on title tags.

By looking at the average CTR within performance inside of Google Search Console, you can identify which keywords you’re ranking for that also have a low CTR.

Since you’re ranking, you already have the impressions — now the goal is to get the clicks with optimized title tags.

Using GSC, Neil tracks which pages get the most clicks, then switches up the title tag, let’s them run for a month, assess their performance and then adjusts accordingly.

4. Ahrefs

Neil uses Ahrefs’ Link Intersect tool to build links.

Put in your website and your competitors, and you’ll quickly see who links to your competition.

If you identify a site that is linking to several of your competitors, but not to your site, there’s a good chance you could get them to link to yours, as well, if you reach out.

Link Intersect gives you a targeted list of people who are receptive to linking to other players within your space.

5. ClickFunnels

As their name suggests, Click Funnels help you create a funnel.

With the costs of Google and Facebook ads rising, the best thing to do is to create a funnel.

A funnel lets you get more upsells, downsells, and cross-sells, and you can create a funnel in minutes.

ClickFunnels lets you create templates and other tools to create one and track your progress.

6. Buzzsumo

One of the things you can do to up your social media game is to generate social shares without ads.

My hack for doing this is using Buzzsumo to find articles similar to my own that are already being shared significantly on Twitter.

From there, I’ll reach out to those people with a quick email with something along the lines of:

I noticed you tweeted one of my favorite blog posts “How to double your search traffic in 30 days” by John Smith. I actually have a content marketing guide that I’m sending out next week. It’s very comprehensive and provides actionable tips.

Wanna heads up when it goes live?

Cheers, Neil Patel

P.S. Let me know if there’s anything I can help you with!

Once they reply, I follow up with a link to the article, and this tactic generates a lot of social shares without any ad spend.

Using Buzzsumo as a starting point to identify people likely to share my content makes all the difference with this strategy.

7. Google Trends

Google loves brands.

Google Trends lets you monitor how your brand is doing.

As your brand increases, so does your search traffic.

That’s why it’s important to stay on top of how your brand is performing in terms of marketing and PR.

Google Trends is helps you monitor that performance.

Now that you know the 7 top growth marketing tools that Neil relies on, try them out for yourself. These tools are all free or have free trial periods you can make use of. Happy marketing!
